Position Overview

The Department of Chemistry at Vassar College invites applications for a one-semester Adjunct Assistant Professor position to teach introductory chemistry in the Spring 2027 semester, beginning in January 2027, with the possibility of extension into the following academic year. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of Vassar's General Chemistry curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Teach three sections of Chemical Principles in Spring 2027
  • Hold regular office hours
  • Assess student learning
  • Participate in the intellectual and educational life of the department

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is preferred; however, candidates with a master's degree together with substantial college-level teaching experience may also be considered
  • Demonstrated experience teaching general chemistry at the undergraduate level
  • A strong commitment to student learning

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $44,500 to $46,500 (USD). When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate's education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
