Adjunct Assistant: Green Brigade Marching Band Percussion Instructor

The University of North Texas (UNT) Green Brigade Marching Band is seeking a talented and student-centered percussion instructor.

About the role

The UNT Green Brigade Marching Band (GB) is a 400-member organization performing at all home football games and traveling to two away games per year. The band draws from a variety of musical styles and collaborates with the Green Brigade director to purchase necessary equipment. The position is annually renewable at the discretion of the director.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange percussion parts (snares, tenors, bass drums, cymbals, front ensemble) for all pre-game, halftime, and exhibition shows, stand-tunes (as needed), and coordinate percussion personnel for various campus and off-campus appearances.
  • Instruct during band camp week (August 8-16) and regular fall semester rehearsals (M 4:00 pm-7:30 pm, W/F, 4:00 pm-6:30 pm).
  • Attend all home game rehearsals and performances.
  • If the band travels to an away football game (including bowl games), attendance is expected.
  • Teach during the fall semester only.
  • Work with the Green Brigade director to purchase needed equipment.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in music education or performance with a concentration in percussion.
  • 3-5 years teaching experience in the public school or university setting, and participation/experience in DCI or WGI circuits.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with HSI/MSIs and/or speaking Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

    Skills

    Skills required include:

    • Communicating with others to exchange information.
    • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
    • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

    Pay

    Compensation is competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and discipline, in accordance with university guidelines and available funding.

    Work schedule varies based on assignment.
