About the Role

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time/adjunct faculty across all subjects. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Applications remain on file for 36 months.

Under general supervision, adjunct faculty prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels and perform duties associated with institutional effectiveness.

Terms of employment are on an "as needed" basis, not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Pay

  • Academic Adjuncts (3 credit course) with MS/MA: $1683 per 3 credit course
  • Academic Adjuncts (3 credit course) with PhD/Ed.D.: $1836 per 3 credit course

Salary is based on the local salary schedule, credentials, and area of assignment.

Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Adhere to all requirements outlined for the learning management system (Blackboard), including posting course syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments with due dates, and test dates.
  • Teach from current job-relevant course syllabi and training plans.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • Demonstrate the safe use of equipment used in the training plan.
  • Include safety, health, and fire prevention as integral parts of instruction.
  • Maintain a learning-conducive environment and supervise students to ensure discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects that relate theory to practical application.
  • Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term, outlining course objectives, methods of evaluation, schedule of activities, lab/shop rules, and required books/supplies/equipment.
  • Administer written and performance examinations systematically, including final exams.
  • Implement a system for recording student progress (e.g., progress charts, Blackboard).
  • Teach and demand good work habits from students.
  • Submit a plan to the department chairperson for coverage during absences.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and appropriate personnel by established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
  • Respond to students' requests promptly, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction (when applicable).
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring "industry chemicals/products."

Recordkeeping

  • Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance records for students.
  • Submit attendance reports on time as required.
  • Follow the state and institution's adopted grading system.
  • Submit grades for each student by the due date each term.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when changes occur in students' status.
  • Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.

Enforcement of College Policies

  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate announcements to students as directed by the administration.
  • Follow institutional and System policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA Regulations and report any known violations.
  • Adhere to ADA Accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.

Qualifications

Fine Arts (Art, Music, and Theatre): Qualified applicants must hold a minimum of a Master's degree including 18 graduate semester hours (27 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline.
