Adjunct ACR Instructor

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time/adjunct faculty across all subjects. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Applications remain on file for 36 months.

About the Role

Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels. Perform duties associated with institutional effectiveness.

Employment is on an "as needed" basis, not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all requirements outlined and published regarding the learning management system (Blackboard), including posting course syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments with due dates, and test dates.
• Teach from current job-relevant course syllabi and training plans.
• Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
• Demonstrate the safe use of equipment used in the training plan.
• Include safety, health, and fire prevention as an integral part of instruction.
• Maintain a learning-conducive environment and supervise students in class, lab, and shop.
• Develop laboratory projects to relate theory to practical application.
• Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term, outlining course objectives, methods of evaluation, schedule of activities, lab/shop rules, and required books/supplies.
• Administer written and performance examinations systematically, including final exams.
• Implement a system for recording student progress (e.g., progress charts, Blackboard).
• Teach and enforce good work habits.
• Submit a plan to the department chairperson for coverage during absences.
• Communicate student progress to students and appropriate personnel by established guidelines.
• Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
• Respond to student requests within 24 to 48 hours.
• Follow all regulations regarding online instruction (when applicable).
• Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring "industry chemicals/products."

Recordkeeping

• Maintain permanent roll and accurate student attendance records.
• Submit attendance reports on time.
• Follow the state and institution's adopted grading system.
• Submit grades for each student by the due date.
• Submit forms to the registrar for changes in student status.
• Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.

Enforcement of College Policies

• Participate in departmental orientation.
• Communicate announcements to students as directed by administration.
• Follow institutional and System policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Adhere to FERPA Regulations and report any known violations.
• Adhere to ADA Accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.

Qualifications

For the Technical Division (Drafting & Design, Electronics, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Automotive Service Technology, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration, Entertainment Media Production, Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Plumbing, Barbering, Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician):

• Minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent in the teaching discipline.
• Three (3) years of successful full-time experience as a practitioner in the field.
• Alabama Cosmetology instructor license required for Cosmetology instructors.

Pay

• Technical Adjuncts (1-3 years of experience): $20.40–$22.44 per hour.
• Technical Adjuncts (4+ years of experience): $23.46 per hour.
• Salary is based on the local salary schedule, credentials, and area of assignment.
