Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced instructor to lead a course that equips academically at-risk students with essential academic skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students develop effective time management, goal-setting, memory encoding and retrieval techniques, as well as critical thinking abilities. In addition, this role will focus on teaching students how to apply these skills to enhance their learning across lectures, reading, writing, class discussions, and synthesis activities. This position is contracted on a per-semester basis.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction and Facilitation: Deliver engaging and informative lessons on study strategies including time management, goal setting, memory techniques, and critical thinking.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and adapt course materials to ensure students can apply study techniques to a wide variety of academic activities such as lectures, reading assignments, writing tasks, and group discussions.
  • Assessment: Create and implement assessments to evaluate students' understanding of course concepts and provide constructive feedback to support student growth.
  • Student Support: Provide individual or group coaching to assist students in overcoming academic challenges and achieving personal learning goals.
  • Interactive Learning: Foster an interactive classroom environment that encourages active participation in critical thinking exercises, class discussions, and collaborative learning activities.
  • Technology Integration: Utilize learning technologies to enhance instruction and engage students in online or hybrid settings when appropriate.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest research and best practices related to study strategies, memory enhancement, and critical thinking. Incorporate new techniques and tools into the course to improve student success.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience in higher education or similar settings.
  • Strong understanding of time management techniques, memory encoding, retrieval methods, and critical thinking strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and online education platforms.
  • Passion for helping students succeed academically and develop lifelong learning skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students and multilingual learners.
  • Multilingual skills highly preferred.
