Addictions Counselor

About the role

The Salvation Army seeks an Addictions Counselor to provide substance abuse treatment and support at the Harbor Light Center. This position works with clients who have chemical dependency problems and their families, utilizing policies, procedures, and available systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual, family, couples, and group counseling within unit policies, programs, and procedures.
• Develop, review, and update client treatment plans; prepare summaries of cases for consultation; develop aftercare plans in discharge and referral; and follow up on plans.
• Network with other Salvation Army programs and outside agencies to provide quality options for clients in their treatment program.
• Participate in the multidisciplinary team approach and milieu therapy program.
• Attend staff meetings and be involved in the Unit’s staff committees.
• Keep records according to policy and prepare statistical and other required reports.
• Work on either of the two shifts of the Unit, agreeing to periodic shift assignments made by the Unit Coordinator.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certified in the State of Illinois as a Certified Addictions Counselor (CADC), or able to obtain certification within 2 years of hire.
• A Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Two years of experience as a Counselor preferred.

• Well organized, attentive to time management, and able to establish a separation of work and personal boundaries.

Pay

$19.83 - $23.79 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Shifts are agreed upon and may change periodically by the Unit Coordinator.
