Senior Addiction Counselor position serving as a key member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, performing assessment, treatment planning, case management, and clinical services with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, working with complex and challenging patients.
- Provide individual and group therapy, and facilitate various clinical activities.
- Conduct lectures, videos, psycho-educational groups, and specialty groups.
- Serve as a primary counselor, managing all aspects of clinical services for a patient caseload.
- Intervene during patient crises using clinical skills to problem-solve.
- Lead patient interviews to complete assessments, including Psycho-Social Assessments for treatment plan development.
- Monitor patient compliance with Treatment Goals.
- Complete forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to confidentiality regulations.
- Provide or coordinate all facets of patient care, including follow-up and transporting patients as needed using a NYS vehicle.
- Offer consultation to less senior staff.
- Use a computer proficiently for patient documentation and required communication.
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently employed as an Addictions Counselor 2, or
- Current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Advanced Counselor (CASAC-Advanced) or Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Master Counselor (CASAC-Master) in NYS and one year of post-CASAC professional counseling experience, or
- Eligible for transfer.
- Current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State.
- Eligibility and maintenance of full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Failure to maintain certification and eligibility will result in termination of employment.
- Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement; chosen candidates will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, utilized on a rotating basis during emergencies when all other staffing options are exhausted.
- Proficiency in computer use for patient documentation and communication.

Pay
The salary range reflects the full range for this graded position, factoring in annual performance advances based on satisfactory reviews. Candidates with no previous State service will begin at the hiring rate (starting rate of the salary range), plus any applicable Location Pay, Geographic Pay, or Shift Pay differentials.
Schedule
This position operates within a 24/7/365 program. Mandatory overtime is an essential function and critical to maintaining adequate staffing for the health and safety of clients.
Background Investigation Requirements
- Check against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL may be barred from appointment.
- Criminal Background Check (CBC) including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions or falsified/omitted information may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment.
- Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be barred from appointment if their names appear on the SCR.
