Addiction Specialist
About the role
We are actively seeking an experienced addiction psychiatrist to join our team in Patchogue, Suffolk County. This is an exciting opportunity to practice as part of a multidisciplinary, inpatient chemical dependency program within a nationally recognized health system, collaborating with a team of mental health professionals to deliver the best possible care to patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical leadership, supervision and direction to the Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program (the “Program”) and Hospital Consultation Liaison Services;
- Provide direct patient care both within the hospital/emergency service areas and in the Program including but not limited to assessment, diagnosis, and medication treatment;
- Develop and expand hospital based and outpatient addiction services;
- Oversee the development and revision of medical policies, procedures and ongoing training for matters such as routine medical care, specialized services, and medical and psychiatric emergency care within the Program.
- Impart evidence-based best practices regarding substance use disorders including but not limited to treatment and recovery-based services, overdose prevention, and medication assisted therapy services;
- In conjunction with the Program Manager, oversee and direct clinicians within the Program, approve assessments and care plans, and make recommendations for further treatment to ensure quality of care and productivity standards are met;
- Ensure documentation meets the requirements of policy and regulations;
- Comply with OASAS, Joint Commission, HIPAA and any related regulatory requirements;
- Maintain sound tracking and documentation systems concerning clinical services;
- Be responsible for teaching and supervising trainees.
Requirements
Your qualifications should include a MD or DO degree, board certification in psychiatry, and experience in addiction psychiatry. You should have a strong track record of delivering high-quality care and be comfortable working with a diverse patient population. You must offer strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment skills reflective of a top-quality healthcare system, and bring the experience needed to deliver compassionate care in the context of homelessness, justice system involvement, and other adverse social determinants.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a licensed, board-certified addiction psychiatrist comfortable working with a diverse patient population to help relieve the pain, symptoms, and stresses associated with substance use disorders, often co-occurring with psychiatric and other disorders. You must offer strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment skills reflective of a top-quality healthcare system, and bring the experience needed to deliver compassionate care in the context of homelessness, justice system involvement, and other adverse social determinants.
Skills
The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting. Proficiency in evidence-based practices for treating substance use disorders is essential.
