Addiction Physician - Inpatient Detox
About the role
The Addiction Physician at The Recovery Village Columbus Drug and Alcohol Rehab (RVC) is responsible for providing administrative oversight of the facility's medical services. This role involves working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director to ensure the smooth operation of medical services, including developing and maintaining policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead the medical staff, dietitians, and physician services coordinator (if applicable).
- Build a collaborative team with nursing and clinical departments.
- Provide excellent medical care aligned with the ARS philosophy.
- Knowledge of detoxification protocols, assessment for medication, withdrawal management, and Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT).
- Understand and document decisions according to ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of written objectives, policies, a procedure manual, and a quality assurance program for medical services.
- Support medical staff success with metrics including expense management, compliance quantity, quality of documentation, completion percentage, and outcomes/readmission rates.
- Complete and be proficient in using the electronic health record with all required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and Medical Needs Criteria.
- Screen for substance use disorders, pain, and develop treatment plans.
- Review and audit all charts in their entirety before submission for insurance audits.
- Evaluate medical staff competency initially and annually based on specified performance standards.
- Collaborate with attending physicians to discuss patient care and evaluate treatment provided.
- Develop and implement performance improvement plans as needed.
- Communicate on-call responsibilities and be available for emergencies.
- Work closely with the Corporate Human Resources department to recruit, interview, and hire new employees.
- Evaluate and maintain effective daily staffing patterns and on-call schedules within budgetary constraints.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited medical school.
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory position.
- Familiarity with JCAHO and other healthcare standards.
- Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff.
- Self-motivated and confident.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the appropriate state, e.g., MD or DO.
- Board Certification in Primary Specialty, required. ABPM Addiction Medicine or AOA Board Certification in Addiction Medicine is preferred if not a psychiatrist.
- DEA to prescribe Controlled medications and have had training on Buprenorphine prescribing.
