Job Summary

This is a temporary, 1 year training program in collaboration with NYS OASAS and Crouse Addiction Treatment Services.

About the Role

Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor, Social Worker, or Licensed Mental Health Counselor within the SUNY Upstate Medical University/Crouse Health Interdisciplinary-Interprofessional Addiction Fellowship, a 1-year program aimed to prepare healthcare professionals from various medical and mental health specialties for academic and clinical careers in Addiction Treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve skills and expertise in the areas of Advocacy, Mentoring and Education, Recovery/Wellness Support, and Ethical Responsibility.
  • Develop skills and expertise in the areas of Assessment of Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Development of Treatment Plans.
  • Learn how to assess and diagnose substance use disorders (SUDs).
  • Learn the basics of inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder treatment modalities and services, focusing on the continuum of care for SUDs, including utilization of community services.
  • Learn about various treatment modalities such as CBT, MI, DBT, and others.
  • Function independently as an Addiction Counselor/Therapist in an SUD treatment setting at the end of the Interdisciplinary Addiction Fellowship.
  • Work towards CASAC-T certification with the expectation to fulfill its requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or relevant field.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form with persons of varying educational and cultural backgrounds. Competency in appropriate computer software applications.

Qualifications

The educational purpose is to train fellows in the fundamentals of addiction treatment including (1) assessment of Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and (2) development of treatment plans (3) individual and group counseling.

Skills

Fellows will learn how to assess and diagnose substance use disorders (SUDs). Fellows will learn the basics of inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder treatment modalities and services, focusing on the continuum of care for SUDs, including utilization of community services. Fellows will learn about various treatment (CBT, MI, DBT, and etc.).

Pay

G5: $24.04 - $26.44 Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations.
