ConsultingFull-time

This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Intelligence Community agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems. AWS built a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community.

About the role

Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet. Through the use of pioneering techniques in distributed computing, developers are able to durably store their data on Amazon’s proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.

The S3 Engineering team is responsible for maintaining and improving our government customer’s cloud storage solutions by reacting to operational incidents while also delivering new and exciting S3 features. We're looking for an Engineer to join our team and be based in Maryland. We’re looking for innovative engineers for the largest storage service on the internet. This position is perfect for professionals interested in creating tools and automation so that engineers can be as hands-off as possible. We want our service to be as automated as possible and that can only be done by having engineers who understand how to think big, simplify solutions to complex, never-before-seen problems, all while ensuring that the customer continues to have the best experience possible.

This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Responsibilities

  • Take a defined project, break down the work to help define milestones, and establish feedback mechanisms.
  • Identify when implementations are not highly available or have defects; investigate systemic patterns.
  • Resolve, mitigate, or escalate operational concerns in a timely manner.
  • Investigate new ways to improve operations and define new solutions to solve technically complex cloud issues for our customers.
  • Take a proactive approach to maintaining service health by investigating performance outliers through metric analysis and log diving.
  • Increase service knowledge by diving deep into its architecture to better understand system configuration and dependencies.
  • Study and learn alongside some of the industry’s top experts on cloud computing and storage.
  • Expand regional coverage for Amazon’s Simple Storage Solution (S3).
  • Build and launch AWS services from ordering hardware to deploying software.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Support the U.S. Intelligence Community and Defense agencies to implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve unique technical problems.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent diploma, or A+ or CND (Certified Network Defender) or Network+ or Security+ certification.
  • 1+ years Linux systems administration experience.
  • 1+ years technical troubleshooting / support experience.
  • 1+ years of networking experience.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services.
  • Experience with systems administration on either Linux/UNIX or Windows operating systems.
