ADA Specialist
About the role
As an ADA Specialist at Banner Health, you will support a broad range of Employee Relations situations by handling ADA Accommodations and Placements for the Banner System. You will respond to questions from team members, leaders, and HR throughout the organization while managing complex cases, providing guidance to ensure ADA compliance, and fostering team member engagement. This position collaborates closely with Labor Relations Teams and liaises with legal, regulatory, and external agencies to facilitate solutions that support accommodation needs.
Responsibilities
- Engage in the enterprise-wide interactive process with team members, team leaders, and applicants requesting workplace accommodations.
- Document all actions and interactions within the internal Case Management system.
- Compile, prepare, maintain, and analyze reports/data for HR leadership.
- Assist in the administration of returns from leaves of absence and coordinate with benefits liaison and third-party administrator on escalated disability issues.
- Work with HR Shared Services, Benefits, Payroll, and other centralized teams to process and administer client requests on a daily basis.
- Lead the placement process by identifying employment opportunities and consulting with HR and Recruitment.
- Strategize with HR advisory to proactively coordinate and manage impacted participants, including risk analysis.
- Guide and influence team leaders on effective reasonable accommodation management, interactive dialogue, and implementation of accommodations.
- Act as a subject matter expert and resource to team leaders and HR partners regarding accommodation and work restriction issues and processes.
- Provide advice and counsel as appropriate and act as a liaison between all parties when necessary.
- Develop and provide ADA-specific education to HR partners, team leaders, and team members.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and policies related to accommodation and disability issues; participate in relevant policy development as appropriate.
- Interact with directors, managers, HR partners, and staff throughout the Banner system, including department executives, operational management, staff, physicians, clinicians, and external partners.
- Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of experience in human resources or equivalent, including two years facilitating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) interactive process.
- Experience analyzing requests, documentation, conducting meetings, and implementing accommodations.
- Familiarity with FMLA and knowledge of statutes, regulations, and EEOC guidance pertaining to ADA accommodations.
- Knowledge or exposure to recruitment systems, benefits, and other areas of Human Resources.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and sensitivity to employee needs while balancing company goals.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail, strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and work independently, and critical thinking skills.
- Specialized understanding or training in career development, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of experience facilitating the ADA interactive process, including analyzing requests, documentation, conducting meetings, and implementing accommodations.
- Familiarity with FMLA and knowledge of statutes, regulations, and EEOC guidance pertaining to ADA accommodations.
- Experience with the ADA interactive process in the healthcare industry.
Physical Demands/Environment
Typical Office Environment: Extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Significant use of personal computer, phone, and general office equipment. Adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects, and effective communication through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on the telephone. May require off-site travel.
Schedule
Monday – Friday with flexibility on either an 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM start time; 8-hour workday.
Pay
Estimated pay range: $27.72 – $46.20 per hour. Actual pay will be determined at offer based on years of relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location, and will consider pay equity relative to current employees in similar roles.
