About the role
The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation – Adapted Programming offers a variety of inclusive programs designed for individuals with disabilities. These programs are conducted at multiple locations across the county and cater to diverse interests such as arts and crafts, dance, sports, fitness, golf, outdoor activities, and more.
Responsibilities
- Teach adapted programs tailored to the needs of individuals with disabilities in a structured environment with lower staff to participant ratios.
- Instruct individuals with disabilities on water safety and basic and advanced swimming skills in a one-on-one or small group setting.
- Work closely with children with disabilities to ensure they can participate in various programs offered at different sites, including indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; provide customer services and maintain equipment and facility.
- Carry out program plans, activities, and lessons; set up and clean up equipment or materials needed for a class; and enforce program and facility rules.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / G.E.D. equivalent
- At least 18 years old
- Minimum of 6 months of experience with adapting lessons for individuals with special needs

Skills

- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
