Ada OR - Surgical Services Assistant - Full TIme/Days

About the Role

The Surgical Services Assistant supports quality patient care by preparing procedure rooms, maintaining equipment and supplies, transporting and positioning patients, and collecting routine clinical data. This role works closely with the surgical team, recognizes changes in patient condition, and helps maintain efficient, safe workflows throughout the department.

Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure rooms and maintain equipment and supplies.
• Transport and position patients safely.
• Collect routine clinical data.
• Work closely with the surgical team to support workflows.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Follow Mercy policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, patient rights, and regulatory requirements.
• Apply infection-prevention practices consistently.
• Promote a safe patient environment, including compliance with fall precautions, patient identification, restraint management, and safe-patient-handling practices.
• Participate in quality-improvement activities that support safe, effective patient care.
• Use department-specific technology (computers, pagers, zone phones, Rover devices) to complete daily tasks and communicate effectively.
• Accurately enter and communicate patient data and other required documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or may be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification may be required based on the location of employment.
• Regularly pushes, pulls, and/or lifts up to 50 pounds.
• Stands and walks for prolonged periods during each shift.
• Frequent gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting.
• Safely performs patient transport, positioning, and other physical support tasks.

Qualifications

• Additional healthcare-related education or training preferred.
• Previous experience in a patient care, perioperative, hospital, environmental services, or healthcare support role preferred.
