Surgical Services Assistant - OR (FT, Days)

Under direct supervision completes tasks, according to skill level, to assist surgery personnel in providing nursing care and surgical services to patients in the operating room area.

Position Details

Surgical Services Assistant
Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO
Department: Operating Room
Status: Full-Time - 40 hours/week
Shift: 8 Hour Days (Mon-Fri) - May include additional call after hours/weekends

Responsibilities

• Hold retractors, operate laparoscopic cameras, and perform other surgical assisting duties as assigned while scrubbed into surgical cases
• Assist surgery personnel in providing nursing care and surgical services to patients in the operating room area

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire
• Must understand English both written and spoken
• Must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Must be comfortable wearing surgical PPE including mask, gown, etc.
• Physical demands:
  • Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Prolonged standing and walking each shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time

Qualifications

• Previous CNA, PCA, PCT, or scrub experience preferred
• Successful completion of medical terminology course or enrollment in surgical tech program preferred
