Unit 5500 Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) is a 25-bed unit offering Full Time Days with 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm), a 4/5:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, and every third weekend rotation. A BSN differential is available.

Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within established nursing standards.
- Promotes patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educates patients and families on illness or injury management, post-treatment home care needs, and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Engages in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family/caregiver, consistent with nursing care standards.
- Ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
- Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

- Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree
