Acute Inpatient Registered Nurse - RN - Dialysis

Float position covering Portsmouth Regional, Dartmouth, Biddeford, Manchester, Greater Boston, and the North Shore area. If lodging is required, the company provides lodging, paid mileage, and meals for assignments over 50 miles from home location.

About the Role

The professional registered nurse (Inpatient RN CAP 2) may be an entry-level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for new employees who meet the RN CAP 2 criteria or attained through advancement from CAP 1. This position is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Responsibilities may include delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff, such as RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As a member of the kidney disease healthcare team, this role participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and program operations.

Responsibilities

• Performs all duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, standards of nursing practice, and applicable regulations.
• Performs ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during, and post-treatment; documents in the patient medical record and adjusts or modifies the treatment plan as indicated.
• Assesses, collaborates, and documents patient/family’s basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.
• Recognizes variations from normal patient status and reports or collaborates with appropriate healthcare team members.
• Provides safe and effective patient care for assigned patients as prescribed for all modality-specific treatment procedures.
• Assesses daily patient care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary patient care staff as needed.
• Initiates and coordinates communication with FKC and non-FKC dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to ensure continuity of care.
• Implements, monitors, and documents patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including notification of adverse reactions.
• Administers medications as prescribed and documents medical justification and effectiveness.
• Initiates and assists with emergency response measures.
• Serves as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees.
• May provide specialized nursing care instructions to hospital/facility staff as stipulated contractually.
• May assist in an outpatient facility on an as-needed basis or serve as a preceptor to new employees.
• Required to complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance.

Requirements

• Current appropriate state licensure.
• Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
• Must meet practice requirements in all states employed.
• Minimum 2 years of nephrology nursing experience in the last 2 years as an RN.
• Acute dialysis experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation; equipment aids or coworkers may assist.
• Requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and bending.
• May occasionally move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs with assistance.
• May lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs as high as 5 feet.
• Work environment includes air temperature control and moderate noise levels; may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
• Includes desk work, computer work, and interaction with patients, facility/hospital staff, and physicians.
• Requires travel to training/meeting sites and between assigned facilities.
• Requires participation in on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, holidays, or as defined by program needs.
• Employees must take the Ishihara’s Color Blindness test; reasonable accommodations may be considered if failed.

Supervision

May oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs/LVNs, and RNs as a designated Nurse in Charge after meeting the following:

• Successful completion of all FKC education and modality-specific training requirements.
• 6 months of experience in acute dialysis as an RN.
