Full time, 12-hour night shift in the United States. 36 hours per week. Non-exempt position.

About the role

Behavioral Health is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. Psychiatric nursing is care of acute and chronic illnesses in nature and occurs in a variety of care settings. Psychiatric nursing encompasses care of various psychiatric illnesses at various stages in the acute setting, helping prepare the patient and family for safe discharge and therapeutic continuum of care. It includes the care of patients greater than the age of 18 with multiple psychiatric conditions. Psychiatric nurses have adapted the nursing process to include components of de-escalation skills, maintaining safety, assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses when caring for patients.

Responsibilities

• Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems and issues.
• Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
• Develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.
• Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
• Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients, and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
• Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
• Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license with the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN). A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on the department within 90 days of hire date.
• Other required competencies (RQIs) may be required depending on the department, within 90 days of hire date.
