About the role
The Indiana Department of Health seeks a Registered Nurse to conduct on-site surveys and investigations for Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID).
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site surveys using federal and state protocols and procedures to identify deficient practices and determine appropriate level of non-compliance in the provision of healthcare and related services.
- Communicate observations and findings ensure adherence with survey protocols and maintain the integrity of the survey.
- Conduct on-site investigations of complaints within the required timeframes using federal and state protocols and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of complainants, consumers who are the subject of the complaint, and the complaint survey schedules.
- Complete a written summary of the investigation of each allegation in the complaint.
- Organize and submit survey packets according to division policies.
- Prepare for and testify in legal proceedings.
- May assist in staff training.
Requirements
- Specialized knowledge of principles of nursing practice and standards of care.
- Specialized knowledge of state licensure and federal certification requirements.
- Knowledge of survey and investigative procedures and the ability to conduct surveys, inspections, interviews, observations, and investigations.
- Ability to identify potential adverse health and safety conditions.
- Ability to utilize computer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data.
- Ability to work before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to be professional and maintain composure under stressful situations.
- Commitment to the public health mission of protecting the health, safety, rights, privacy, and well-being of residents in long term care facilities.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse in an Acute or Long-Term Care setting is preferred.
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.

Pay
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Schedule
This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work.
