Actuarial Intern

About the role

Optumas, founded in 2006, works primarily with State Medicaid agencies and Medicaid Managed Care Plans, providing guidance and strategy to help them remain efficient and effective purchasers of healthcare services. Optumas is also at the forefront of healthcare reform initiatives, helping multiple states weigh the opportunities and consequences created by constantly changing healthcare delivery and payment systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with the CBIZ Optumas team while attending client conference calls, performing various analytical project work, and completing on-the-job training.
• Perform and review analysis of healthcare data using Excel, including data manipulation and summarization of large healthcare datasets using statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, WPS, Access, and SPSS).
• Balance multiple projects and effectively manage time to ensure successful completion by deadlines.
• Maintain internal communication and presentation of analyses.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude toward self, other professionals, clients, and CBIZ Optumas.
• Professional appearance and manner.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Potential to transition into a full-time direct hire position after graduation.

Requirements

• Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, or a related field.

Qualifications

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
• Exposure to data analytical programming (SAS, SQL, WPS, Python).
• Plan to pursue or successful completion of actuarial exams.
• Proficient use of applicable software programs, including Microsoft Office suite.
• Active participation in student organizations and work experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Well organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively multi-task with planning and efficiency.
• Manage multiple deadlines and prioritize assignments.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
