Actuarial Engineer

About The Role

We're seeking an Actuarial Engineer who is passionate about building a product that our users love. You'll work closely with the founder and users to design and implement new concepts and ideas. You'll own the insurance-specific parts of the product, from the rating engine to filing support, and be responsible for delivering the best value to our users. Your decisions will shape the product and its future.

What you'll do

• Build and ship the insurance-specific parts of the product, from the rating engine to filing support, owning them from design to production
• Guide the product more broadly, connecting what we build to the work a pricing actuary does every day
• Own the correctness of what we put in front of actuaries, where the output gets rated, filed, and reviewed by regulators
• Shape the product and its future, to lead the new era of predictive modeling
• Elevate the team, by bringing your own ideas and expertise to the table
• Partner with the founder, to build a product that our users love

What we're looking for

• Experience working in an actuarial role, with real time spent on pricing
• Strong programming skills, whether that comes from analysis work, research code, or production systems
• Track record of building models or tooling that other actuaries relied on
• Familiarity with what it takes to get a rate filed, from the analysis through to the regulator
• Cares deeply about getting the numbers right, and about the people who have to defend them
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment
• High level of autonomy and ownership
• Thrives in a remote, asynchronous environment with a lean, high-output team
• Domain knowledge in predictive modeling and data science
