Actuarial Analyst - San Francisco Tri-State Property and Casualty (Remote U.S.)

About the role

Our San Francisco Tri-State Property and Casualty practice comprises about 50 employees who work on some of today’s most important insurance problems, including climate resilience and telematics. We consult with insurance carriers, reinsurers, and self-insureds on loss reserving and pricing. We also build predictive models and innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers, as well as the associated state regulatory rate filing support.

Responsibilities

  • Extract, clean, and analyze complex datasets using advanced SQL and Python skills.
  • Solve real-world data problems in a professional services environment.
  • Support robust, data-driven rate recommendations by incorporating property, policy, and geographic information.
  • Collaborate with GIS and catastrophe modeling teams to build and refine predictive models.
  • Prepare comprehensive exhibits, charts, and interactive visualizations to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work on various programmatic tasks such as reviewing data in preparation for analysis, checking results for accuracy and consistency (peer review), drafting reports, and maintaining documentation.
  • Draft written reports and Excel-based exhibits, and prepare other internal/external correspondence.
  • Undertake research projects of varying shape and size.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, including quantitative coursework in actuarial science, data science, mathematics, statistics, etc.
  • A minimum of two actuarial exams, and in pursuit of a credential from the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • A minimum of one relevant internship up to four years of professional actuarial experience.
  • Substantial expertise with MS Excel and Word.
  • Substantial expertise with Python or R and SQL for data analysis.

Skills

  • Experience with cloud-based data analysis tools.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Working knowledge of databases.
