About Us

Rael & Letson is an independent employee benefits consulting and actuarial services firm. We serve as a trusted advisor to multiemployer and other retirement and health plans, helping bring high quality benefits to working people. We partner with our clients to design, implement, evaluate and communicate innovative and cost-effective benefit programs customized to their unique needs. This role will ideally be located (hybrid) in our San Mateo office. Other R&L office locations such as Seattle or San Diego would also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support actuarial consulting work for clients by performing per-capita health cost projections.
  • Prepare retiree health valuations (OPEB for “Other Post-Employment Benefits”).
  • Create accounting disclosure reports.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

We are seeking an analyst with strong technical and communication skills and the ability to establish good working relationships with plan professionals. The successful candidate will enjoy analytical work, be attentive to detail, and work well in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, business, actuarial science, or a related field, or 2+ years of similar industry experience.
  • 1-2 years of actuarial / valuation work experience is preferred.
  • Actuarial exams in-progress toward an actuarial designation strongly preferred.

Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal, research, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong personal management and organization skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Strong knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel.

Pay

The listed compensation range represents the entire range for this position. Starting base salary will reflect a candidate's skills and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus program.
