About the role
The primary purpose of the Actuarial Analyst position is to provide actuarial analyses based on generally accepted actuarial principles. Under the direction and oversight of more senior level actuaries, the completed analyses are used by internal business leaders for data-based decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Conducting research and analysis on potential new lines of business and establishing rates/pricing that supports Markel's initiative of continued profitable premium growth while maintaining cost-based pricing.
- Researching new business opportunities as requested.
- Communicating results of actuarial analyses to meeting attendees and ensuring that all attendees have a clear understanding of the final results.
- Presenting actuarial analyses to internal stakeholders and responding efficiently and accurately to requests to vary the actuarial analysis in terms of structure and/or assumptions to more accurately represent the risk being analyzed.
- Communicating potential actuarial issues promptly.
- Performing other actuarial work as needed.
Requirements
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with actuarial software and methodologies.
- Knowledge of pricing and reserving techniques.
- Ability to communicate complex data and findings clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Passing one or more actuarial exams preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in actuarial analysis.
Skills
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
