About the Role

An Activity Sponsor is responsible for supervising and supporting a specific extracurricular club, organization, or activity. This role involves mentoring students, overseeing club activities, and ensuring that all events and meetings are conducted in a safe and organized manner. The Activity Sponsor works closely with students, faculty, and administration to promote student engagement and development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of the percussion section of the marching band, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures.
  • Attend all club meetings, events, and activities.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Serve as a liaison between the club, school administration, and parents.
  • Communicate important information to club members and parents.
  • Promote the club’s activities through school announcements, newsletters, and social media.
  • Lead the planning, organization, and execution of club events, meetings, and activities.
  • Coordinate logistics such as scheduling, venue setup, and materials needed.
  • Ensure all events are well-organized and comply with school policy and district regulations.
  • Maintain records of club activities, membership, and achievements.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and support to student leaders and members.
  • Encourage student participation and foster leadership development.
  • Assist students in setting goals and planning activities.
  • Assist in managing the budget for the club or activity.
  • Oversee fundraising activities and ensure proper allocation of funds.
  • Maintain accurate, transparent financial records and submit necessary reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Education or advanced training relevant to percussion instruction and marching band activities strongly desired.
  • Ability to maintain a generally positive and professional attitude.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in group facilitation, planning, and coaching.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions.
  • Willingness and commitment to observe and model all District policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Communicates effectively and positively with the school district community.

Environmental and Physical Demands

  • Depending on the activity and school setting, there may be mild to moderate or louder noise.
  • Potential exposure to weather conditions and variable temperatures.
  • Typical school classroom, office, gymnasium, or outdoor lighting and facilities.
  • Lifting of ten (10) or more pounds may be required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, bending, squatting, and reaching.
  • Repetitive movement.

Pay

Stipend range: $0.01 – $5,000 USD. Full salary range: $0.01 – $10,000 USD.

Position Details

Seasonal position located at Douglas County High School. This is not a one-year-only position. The posting will remain open until filled but will not extend past November 7, 2026.
