About the Role

The Afterschool Activity Leader will lead fun and engaging classes for a diverse group of elementary-age students in areas such as arts & crafts, sports, academic enrichment, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Each class will consist of approximately 15 students grouped by grade level. Class materials and supplies will be provided.

This is a temporary, part-time position reporting to the CAFE Site Manager at Raleigh Hills Elementary. The role focuses on designing, planning, and teaching afterschool activities that enrich students' lives through hands-on learning and skill-building in a safe, positive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons tied to academics, recreation, and/or the arts during afterschool hours.
  • Supervise groups of 12-16 students while maintaining school-appropriate class decorum.
  • Oversee daily routines such as meal time, recess, bathroom breaks, and class transitions.
  • Record and submit student attendance daily.
  • Maintain classroom and school rules to ensure student safety.
  • Communicate frequently with the CAFE Site Manager about individual student progress, successes, and concerns.
  • Keep the CAFE Site Manager informed about overall class development and needed support.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff, and custodians.
  • Work within school and agency policies, protecting student confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching children and creating lesson plans.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, and safe setting.
  • Independent, self-motivated, creative, and resourceful individual.
  • Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
  • Demonstrated excitement and respect in working with children of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-age children and strong behavior management skills (required).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States (documentation will be required for I-9 form).
  • Basic English proficiency (must be able to read, write, and speak English).
  • All employees must submit a criminal background check.
  • Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.

Schedule

Monday–Thursday, 2:30–6:00 PM.

Term: Fall Term (9/28/26–12/17/26). CAFE activities are not held on Beaverton School District No-School or Early Release Days. The position may have an option to continue for future school terms.

Pay

$18.00/hour.
