ACTIVITY LEADER

About the Role

Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) helps people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequity, and social isolation through proven programs that help individuals succeed at home, in school, and in the community. We are seeking a Temporary SUN Activity Leader to lead fun and engaging afterschool classes for a diverse group of elementary-age students in areas such as arts & crafts, sports, academic enrichment, and STEM. Each class will consist of approximately 15 students grouped by grade level, with materials and supplies provided.

This is a part-time, temporary position under the supervision of the SUN Site Manager, designed to enrich students' lives through hands-on activities that inspire learning and build skills for healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive learning environment that recognizes the potential of each child.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons with ties to academics, recreation, and/or the arts during afterschool hours.
• Supervise groups of 12-16 students while maintaining school-appropriate class decorum.
• Oversee daily routines such as meal time, recess, bathroom breaks, and class transitions.
• Record and submit student attendance daily.
• Maintain classroom and school rules to ensure student safety.
• Communicate frequently with the SUN Site Manager about individual student progress, successes, and concerns.
• Keep the SUN Site Manager informed about overall class development and needed support.
• Maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff, and custodians.
• Work within school and agency policies, protecting student confidentiality.

Requirements

• Experience in teaching children and creating lesson plans.
• Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, and safe setting.
• Independent, self-motivated, creative, and resourceful individual.
• Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to ask questions for clarification.
• Demonstrated excitement in working with children and respect in all interactions.
• Enthusiasm about working in an inclusive environment serving children of all backgrounds and abilities.
• Experience working with groups of elementary-age children and strong behavior management skills (a must).
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally able to work in the United States (documentation will be required for I-9 form).
• Basic English proficiency (must be able to read, write, and speak English).
• All employees must submit a criminal background check.
• Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.

Schedule

Monday–Thursday, 2:00–5:00 PM. SUN activities are not held on Beaverton School District No-School or Early Release Days. The current term is Summer, with potential options to continue for future school terms.

Pay

$18/hour.
