Essential Functions

  • Under the supervision of the CTRS, assists in providing therapeutic recreational activities in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice in a timely fashion as outlined by Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, and the Hospital's Mission statement and CQI monitors.
  • Assists in planning and conducting individual and group activities as assigned by CTRS.
  • Participates as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings when necessary and reporting on assigned patients.
  • Documents in a timely manner in the medical record.
  • Communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive related manner to patients and their families.
  • Assists in identifying safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs under the direction of the CTRS.
  • Under the direction of the CTRS, assists in conducting discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, and involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
  • Responds to inquiry calls and assists in performing chart audits.
  • Assists in planning and conducting individual and group therapy assigned by CTRS, Administrator, or physician’s orders.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age related disability and the needs of the patients served on assignment.
  • Achieve in-depth knowledge of mental illness and chemical dependency and the family dynamics, which accompany them.
  • Show in-depth knowledge of clinical therapy modalities.
  • Show excellent communication and group/process skills as related to age specific patient needs.
  • Show knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.
  • Be able to work under close supervision.
  • Successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral de-escalation program.

Work Environment

  • Subject to many interruptions.
  • This position can be high paced and stressful including pressure due to multiple calls and inquires; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere.
  • This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior.
  • Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
