Essential Functions
- Assists in providing therapeutic recreational activities in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice in a timely fashion as outlined by Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, and the Hospital's Mission statement and CQI monitors.
- Assists in planning and conducting individual and group activities as assigned by CTRS.
- Participates as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings when necessary and reporting on assigned patients.
- Documents in a timely manner in the medical record.
- Communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive related manner to patients and their families.
- Assists in identifying safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs under the direction of the CTRS.
- Under the direction of the CTRS, assists in conducting discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, and involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
- Responds to inquiry calls and assists in performing chart audits.
- Assists in planning and conducting individual and group therapy assigned by CTRS, Administrator, or physician’s orders.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- At least 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred.
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Activities Training Program preferred.
Qualifications / Skills
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age related disability and the needs of the patients served on assignment.
- Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age related care/disability/cultural sensitivity related care to adolescent, chronically mentally ill, adult, geriatric, chemically dependent, and dually diagnosed patient populations.
- Have basic knowledge of chronic mental illness.
- Have in-depth knowledge of clinical therapy modalities.
- Have excellent communication and group/process skills as related to age specific patient needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.
- Be able to work under close supervision.
- Successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral de-escalation program.
Work Environment
- Subject to many interruptions.
- This position can be high paced and stressful including pressure due to multiple calls and inquires; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere.
- This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior.
- Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
