Objective
The Activity Aide ensures residents are engaged in a meaningful, varied program of activities that meets the individual resident needs, under the direction of the Activity Director.
Primary Relationships
Will interact directly with activity department team, residents, their families, and all levels of staff.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate an activity program according to established policies.
- Assist in planning group and individual activities designed to restore self-care and well-being and geared to the individual's needs and interest.
- Carry out appropriate plans of activities for, and visit residents who are bedfast, unwilling or unable to participate in group activities.
- Assist with activities according to the interests expressed by residents.
- Encourage resident assistance with and participation in scheduled activities.
- Assist with the transportation of residents to outside activities.
- Document observations and plans of action in appropriate records.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records, conditions and other information relating to residents, employees and facility.
- Perform assigned tasks, as directed by the Activity Director, in accordance with facility guidelines and procedures.
- Assist in encouraging an atmosphere of optimism, warmth and interest in residents' activity preferences and needs.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Caring person with a desire to work with the frail and elderly.
- Preferably previous activities experience in a nursing facility.
- Ability to prioritize duties.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain optimum rapport with residents, family members and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
Work Environment
- Interacts with staff and residents.
- May be subjected to interruptions throughout the workday.
- Work area may be stressful; the employee may be on their feet for long periods of time.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move continuously; may cover large distances walking through facility and is on feet consistently.
- Frequently required to bend, stoop, reach, crouch, push and pull; occasionally required to squat, crawl, climb, kneel and balance.
- Ability to adapt to changes in daily work hours and schedule.
- Ability to work beyond regularly scheduled shift (overtime) when necessary.
- Ability to perform tasks which require arm-hand steadiness.
- Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time through duration of shift(s).
- Ability to keep attention on task if routinely interrupted.
Pay & Schedule
- M-F & Every Other Weekend
- Salary $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
