Activities Coordinator - Recreational Therapist

About the role

The Activities/Recreational Therapist works as an integral part of the clinical services program, ensuring compliance with legal, organizational, medical staff, and regulatory agency guidelines. They collaborate with therapy services, case management, education, and discharge planning teams to promote the well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates medically-approved activities within the psychiatric program schedule for patients within the facility.
• Assesses patients' leisure, social, and recreation status as part of the overall biopsychosocial assessment process.
• Participates as a member of the treatment team, formulating goals and interventions based on identified patient needs and recommending appropriate recreational activities.
• Provides groups aimed at developing the patient’s social, leisure, and physical needs.
• Demonstrates the ability to accurately provide groups and document the patient’s response to the interventions.
• Incorporates the response to the group interventions into the patient’s plan of care.
• Supports the clinical department through teamwork and input into the patient’s overall psychosocial needs.

Requirements

• Education: High School Degree
• Certification: Approved certification program for Activity Therapy duties
• Experience: One year experience in a healthcare setting
• Skills: Excellent assertive communication, writing, and composition skills; ability to organize and prioritize workload; successful completion of CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work under close supervision.
• Therapeutic intervention/de-escalation education required.
