About the role
As the Activities Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the emotional, cognitive, and social development of youth by designing and facilitating therapeutic recreational activities. These programs promote pro-social behavior, physical engagement, and reintegration into the community while enhancing coping, communication, and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and coordinate structured recreation and leisure activities
- Use intervention modalities such as creative arts, sports, dance/movement, adventure programming, and leisure education
- Provide recreational programming during non-traditional hours to promote pro-social behavior
- Audit youth capabilities, interests, and needs; adjust activities based on progress and goals
- Consult with clinicians, physicians, and treatment teams to align recreational goals with treatment plans
- Participate in care planning and team meetings
- Design instructional strategies and community reintegration activities to build skills and confidence
- Tailor programs to meet individual youth learning styles, emotional needs, and physical abilities
- Apply clinical knowledge to support individualized goal achievement
- Document treatment progress in accordance with plans of care
Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field
- At least one year of experience in recreational or play therapy
- Pass a background check and drug screening
- Preferred: Experience working with youth and adolescents in a residential or therapeutic setting
- Familiarity with group dynamics, experiential education, and Medicaid documentation
Qualifications
- Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable; able to actively engage in physical recreation with youth; able to transport youth or staff as needed; must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state; must pass PAR (Professional Assault Response) evaluation and certification
Other Duties Include
- Participate in team discussions, providing effective input and strategies
- Attend case conferences and family education meetings
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times
- Use appropriate teaching methods in all instruction and discharge activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
