About the role

As the Activities Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the emotional, cognitive, and social development of youth by designing and facilitating therapeutic recreational activities. These programs promote pro-social behavior, physical engagement, and reintegration into the community while enhancing coping, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate structured recreation and leisure activities
  • Use intervention modalities such as creative arts, sports, dance/movement, adventure programming, and leisure education
  • Provide recreational programming during non-traditional hours to promote pro-social behavior
  • Audit youth capabilities, interests, and needs; adjust activities based on progress and goals
  • Consult with clinicians, physicians, and treatment teams to align recreational goals with treatment plans
  • Participate in care planning and team meetings
  • Design instructional strategies and community reintegration activities to build skills and confidence
  • Tailor programs to meet individual youth learning styles, emotional needs, and physical abilities
  • Apply clinical knowledge to support individualized goal achievement
  • Document treatment progress in accordance with plans of care

Requirements

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field
  • At least one year of experience in recreational or play therapy
  • Pass a background check and drug screening
  • Preferred: Experience working with youth and adolescents in a residential or therapeutic setting
  • Familiarity with group dynamics, experiential education, and Medicaid documentation

Qualifications

  • Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable; able to actively engage in physical recreation with youth; able to transport youth or staff as needed; must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state; must pass PAR (Professional Assault Response) evaluation and certification

Other Duties Include

  • Participate in team discussions, providing effective input and strategies
  • Attend case conferences and family education meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times
  • Use appropriate teaching methods in all instruction and discharge activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
