Activities Assistant, Full Time Day

About the Role

Kindred Hospital South Florida - Hollywood is an 89-bed freestanding long-term acute care hospital offering extended recovery care. We provide 24-hour clinical care seven days a week in partnership with your physician. Our facility includes two negative pressure rooms and an in-house pharmacy, located near Hollywood Beach with convenient access to dining and shopping.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and participates in person-specific activity programming, including one-to-one intervention, small group facilitation, and large group presentations.
• Documents individual participation and the value of approaches in the medical record.
• Assists the Activity Director as needed.
• Utilizes the environment to provide comfort and stimulation to the patient population.
• Fosters a sense of community within the Specialized Acute Unit (SAU)/center environment.
• Leads and participates in individual and group activities using models such as pet therapy, music therapy, and art therapy.
• Assists with decorating the facility/SAU and preparing for special events and seasonal parties.
• Develops and posts a monthly calendar as a planning resource for SAU patients and families.
• Participates in recreational programs for SAU patients confined to their rooms.
• Promotes volunteer efforts in the community.
• Maintains records of activities and attendance.
• Stores activity equipment and supplies, and cleans the area after activities.
• Utilizes the biopsychosocial model to support patient well-being.
• Provides or arranges comfort and support to patients and families when needed.
• Performs job responsibilities in accordance with company standards, policies, and applicable laws.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Approximate travel required: 1-10%.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Must maintain good and regular attendance.
• Demonstrates willingness to learn new modalities and approaches.
• Good listener with the ability to build rapport easily.
• Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to work with patients and families facing end-of-life issues.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Certified Recreation Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Activity Assistant Certified (NCCAP or state-specific), or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Experience in activity programming in any setting prior to hire is preferred.
• Different combinations of education and experience may qualify, depending on state requirements.
