About the role
Merrill Gardens at Willow Glen is seeking an Active Living Program Director to lead a diverse array of social and recreational activities for residents.
Responsibilities
- Develop Activities: Plans, coordinates, and participates in social events and outings to foster an active and vibrant community life for residents.
- Determine Resident Programming Preferences: Gathers insights from new resident orientations, feedback sessions, resident council meetings, discussions with family members, and ongoing interactions to understand and meet residents' needs.
- Engage Residents and Families: Organizes and facilitates activities, volunteer opportunities, and community events to encourage socialization, personal growth, and physical activity.
- Establish Partnerships: Collaborates with external organizations, family members, and educational institutions to enhance community programs and volunteer efforts.
- Track Participation: Monitors resident activity participation and adjusts event schedules accordingly.
- Stay Informed: Stays current with active aging and generational trends to improve community programs and share best practices.
- Create Communications: Develops and maintains activity calendars for residents, families, and prospective residents.
- Support Lifestyle Department: Assists the Lifestyle Program Manager in maintaining and updating resources and tools for the Lifestyle Department.
- Transport Residents: Coordinates transportation for residents to and from activities, shopping trips, and appointments.
- Clean Up After Activities: Ensures activities areas are clean and organized post-event.
- Acknowledge Special Days: Recognizes and celebrates residents' special occasions.
- Select and Manage Vendors: Chooses and manages outside vendors for events, including entertainers, caterers, and others.
- Market Community: Conducts tours and assists in planning events to attract prospective residents and engage the community.
- Liaison Work: Facilitates communication between senior centers, churches, and the broader community.
- Supervise Staff: Oversees Active Living Assistants and volunteers, ensuring effective management of the team.
- Manage Budget: Tracks and manages monthly budgets for activity supplies, entertainment, food, and staffing.
- Collaborate Across Departments: Works with other department heads in planning and conducting orientation and in-service training.
- Participate in Training: Attends and participates in all in-service training and education programs.
- Order Supplies: Orders and manages supplies for all activities.
- Vehicle Management: Inspects and maintains the community vehicle as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma required, college degree or equivalent preferred.
- Three years of related experience, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of social activity leadership preferred.
- Senior living experience preferred.
