ACS Behavioral Health Responder Supervisor

About the Role

Supervise, plan, and oversee the work of professional behavioral health responders, support staff, and department activities, including community response and policy formulation in accordance with Federal and/or State regulations. Coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies while providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Community Safety Department management team. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing, and work may involve potentially abusive, hazardous, or emergency conditions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, assign, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional and support staff.
• Participate in staff selection; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Contribute to the overall quality of the unit's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams; provide professional development and monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Prepare statistical reports and summaries as needed.
• Represent the Albuquerque Community Safety Department in meetings with service providers and other public and private organizations.
• Coordinate and assist with Emergency Communications Centers of Police and Fire Rescue Departments to establish and oversee assignment of calls; monitor call response times and coordinate co-responses.
• Oversee and respond in person or by phone to 911 requests for assistance with individuals experiencing issues with mental and behavioral health, inebriation, homelessness, addiction, chronic mental illness, and other issues that do not require police or EMT response.
• Present and meet with members of educational institutions, community groups, and the public.
• Provide complex and sensitive management and programmatic support; offer recommendations to upper management.
• Assist in developing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards.
• Review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding matters such as organizational structure, team and quality improvement alternatives, and legal/regulatory development and implementation.
• Evaluate employee performance and complete performance evaluations for designated staff.
• Serve as the first level of counsel for employees; communicate effectively with all those encountered in the course of work.
• Examine supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts, and state and federal regulations.
• Supervise and oversee safety procedures to ensure public safety and security procedures are followed.
• Represent ACS to other divisions, departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies and organizations.
• Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in assigned areas.
• Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries from responders and address concerns or complaints from consumers.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.
• Four (4) years of experience in social services, behavioral health, public health, emergency management, criminal justice, human services, law enforcement, emergency communications/dispatch, corrections, or a related behavioral health or public safety field, including two (2) years of supervisory experience in one or more elements of a comprehensive social service or health-related field.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
• Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from the date of hire.
• Successful completion of a security background check conducted by the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
