Primary Responsibilities
- Perform daily SICU rounds and actively participate in multidisciplinary discussions.
- Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for critically ill patients.
- Develop and implement evidence-based care plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests and imaging.
- Perform and assist with bedside procedures (e.g., arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, thoracentesis).
- Manage ventilators and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
- Cookordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure seamless transitions of care.
- Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Respond to emergent situations and provide rapid assessment and intervention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members regarding care plans and prognosis.
- Participate in hand-offs and care coordination meetings.
- Support education, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the SICU.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP).
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; ATLS preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in critical care or surgical ICU preferred; new graduates with strong ICU training may be considered.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Strong communication, procedural, and decision-making skills.
