ACPTC NURSE ($5,000 Hiring Incentive)

About the role

This position provides direct care and treatment to residents adjudicated as Sexually Violent Persons, upon release from incarceration. All admissions and discharges from ACPTC are court-ordered. The role delivers court-ordered services, including medical, dental, and behavioral health care such as counseling and medication. Staff work on a rotating schedule and may be required to work any day of the week to meet the needs of the treatment center and residents.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct psychiatric and medical nursing care to residents, including attending group activities and assisting with activities of daily living.
• Observe behavior and physical status; transcribe doctor’s orders, review medication charts, administer medication and treatments, and count accountable medication.
• Perform triage duties with sick call and assist doctors with nursing input.
• Provide daily wound care for chronic resident conditions.
• Conduct random UDS and ETOH tests with complete documentation as dictated by policy; perform lab draws as necessary.
• Receive, document, and distribute self-medications per policy; conduct random medication counts to ensure resident compliance.
• Perform chart reviews and maintain documentation in resident records, including nursing assessments and summaries.
• Attend and participate in resident staffings, treatment planning conferences, and doctor’s rounds.
• Provide orientation, supervision, and on-the-job training to new employees; assist in evaluating job performance and act as a resource person for unit employees.
• Attend in-service training to maintain or increase knowledge of leadership, medical-surgical, psychiatric nursing updates, and legal aspects of nursing.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment; keep supplies updated and replenished.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned (typically 5% - 10% of the role).

Requirements

• Current Arizona RN license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification.
• Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1758.07.
• Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles of psychiatric nursing and general principles of medical, geriatric, and forensic nursing.
• Understanding of the nursing process in developing resident care plans, psychiatric rehabilitation, pharmacology, and infection control.
• Effective oral and written communication techniques.
• Familiarity with applicable hospital/treatment policies and procedures, patient rights and responsibilities, and performance improvement activities.
• Proficiency in basic computer programs and software related to health records and unit reports.
• Understanding of Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.

Skills

• Assessment of patients' physical and mental status and needs.
• Communication with patients, nursing staff, treatment team members, and other departments.
• Therapeutic interventions and providing education to patients and staff.
• Documenting observations and interventions.
• Supporting a diverse, multi-cultural workforce that reflects the community.

Selective Preferences

The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of progressive responsibility in a security and/or behavioral health setting, preferably in a mental health care facility, hospital/institutional security, or law enforcement work experience.
