ACMS Special Education Teacher

About the role

The Special Education Teacher will provide instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with other special education teachers, administrators, and parents to support student learning.
• Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate endorsement in Special Education.
• A valid Virginia teaching license in Special Education.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills

• Effective classroom management skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.
• Proficiency in using assistive technology.

Pay

Salary range: Step 0 ($52,626) - Step 30 ($76,394); placement on the 2026-2027 teacher salary scale is commensurate with experience; Master's supplement is $2,275; Doctorate supplement is $3,250.

Schedule

10-month position (200 days).
