Accounting Technician

Under direct supervision of the Finance Manager, calculates, reconciles, and verifies financial transactions. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, reviews, and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating financial transactions.
  • Reconciles and processes daily credit card batches.
  • Downloads daily bank transactions to verify wire and bank transfers are posted correctly.
  • Ensures tax payments are made on time.
  • Maintains and ensures tax payments are made on time and reconciles W2G tax deposits.
  • Photocopies, collates, distributes, and files documents for the accountants.
  • Prepares journal entries and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares outgoing correspondence, including emails, faxes, and memos; creates spreadsheets and enters information into databases to meet reporting requirements.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Assists with month-end financial close as needed.
  • Assists with year-end audit as needed.
  • Handles all phone calls and inquiries from guests.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED plus two (2) years accounting or bookkeeping experience with (6) months computer-related work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • No felony, theft or stealing convictions.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation, and obtain and maintain a gaming license.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the functions and structure of Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate, read, and write clearly in English and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding guest service at all times.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and filing systems and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds, team members, and officials.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under stressful conditions, make solid decisions, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to meet strict timelines.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Skill in using computerized accounting software programs, office equipment including 10-key adding machine, and word-processing and spreadsheet programs; proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to walk; stand; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.
  • Some work is performed in a Casino setting with exposure to second-hand smoke and a moderate noise level.
  • Evenings, graveyards, holidays, and/or weekend work may be required.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
