About the role
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Administrative Services is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 1 position in Juneau, Alaska.
Responsibilities
- Supports department travel and financial operations by reviewing, entering, and approving Travel Authorizations, taxable travel, Move Expense Reports, and PCard transactions in the State's IRIS FIN and HRM systems.
- Researches and resolves financial discrepancies.
- Provides guidance to administrative staff and interprets applicable state manuals and contracts.
- Frequent communication with vendors, managers, and operating staff to answer inquiries and deliver training when needed.
Requirements
- One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
- Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
- Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Skills
- Accounting Operation: Ability to collect, analyze, and organize accounting data.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify discrepancies, completeness or inaccuracies in data and make corrections.
- Office and Computer Skills: Experience with IRIS (the statewide accounting system) or other accounting programs. Intermediate or advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
- Customer Service: Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing. Positive, professional, and outgoing attitude oriented toward customer service.
- Self-Management: Experience performing detail-oriented assignments independently or with minimal supervision. Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as in a close team environment.

Pay
The wage for this position increased by 3% effective July 1, 2026. The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase.
Schedule
This position is based in the Juneau Headquarters building and offers convenient access to ample, unrestricted parking. The incumbent can expect daily interaction with the DAS team and frequent communication with division staff and outside vendors through teleconference, TEAMS, and in person meetings.
