Responsibilities

  • Analyze a variety of accounting systems
  • Resolve accounting problems and provide technical accounting advice and assistance
  • Present clear, concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with work associates and City agency representatives

Requirements

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must meet one of the following:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Five years of experience in performing accounting work.

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, including:

  • 30 credits in accounting and business law
  • 6 additional credits in statistics or data processing
  • Two years of experience performing accounting systems analysis work may substitute for the five years of general accounting experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for maintenance, development, and implementation of accounting systems, methods, and procedures
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures analysis, data processing, and records/forms management as they apply to accounting
  • Knowledge of auditing procedures and techniques
  • Ability to perform accounting systems analysis
  • Ability to resolve accounting problems and provide technical accounting advice
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Additional Information

  • Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment may be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting.
  • All selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probationary period.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies for at least six months.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution; foreign credentials must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency (www.naces.org).
  • This position requires completion of a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law.

Selection Process

  • Candidates indicating minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list without further examination.
  • Training and experience will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity.
  • Provide complete and accurate information on your application to avoid disqualification.
  • Successful applicants will be placed on the employment-certified eligible list for at least six months.
  • Examination may include supplemental questions to assess specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
