Accounting Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the Accounting staff (such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable) in the assigned region.
  • Manage daily accounting operations by ensuring the accuracy of the General Ledger and documentation of procedures.
  • Manage month-end close process, close system ledgers, review all journal entries and reconciliations, as well as the financial statement reporting and distribution.
  • Ensures accounts payable is managing vendors and paying them inside their terms and all supportive documents and approvals are properly documented.
  • Ensures accounting team is maintaining good relationships with internal departments and external customers.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local laws by calculating, paying and filing sales and use tax & property tax.
  • Financial Statement Audit – assist in the annual audit by preparing audit schedules and providing auditors with substantiation and documentation.
  • Operating & Capital Budgets – Assist in the creation of annual Company Owned Stores budgets.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing and analysis.
  • Prepare the financial reports and analysis for Management for evaluation and planning purposes by collecting and formatting necessary information.
  • Aid in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Accounting Department by – Ensuring Department policies and procedures are designed to support strong internal controls; Ensuring compliance with Company and Department policies and procedures; Identifying weaknesses policies and procedures, and recommending updates to strengthen internal controls, when appropriate; Ensuring compliance with GAAP; and Continuously improving the Department through the use of technology and streamlined processes and workflow.
  • Supervises, trains, develops and manages resources such as personnel.
  • Provides frequent feedback including annual performance reviews.
  • Provides routine informal feedback to manage employee performance.
  • Takes corrective actions as necessary and recognizes employees when appropriate.
  • Regularly holds individual performance discussions (i.e. “One-On-Ones”) with direct reports.
  • Ensures accounting teams are up-to-date and knowledgeable regarding policies and procedures by holding regular meetings and continually providing information and status reports.
  • Participates in the hiring and selection process to identify qualified candidates within established processes and guidelines.
  • Provides learning opportunities to develop employees for promotion.
  • Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist as a backup to other accounting positions.
  • Carries out other functions as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and constructive working relationships with counterparts in other departments by ensuring open lines of communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Accounting/Finance from a four-year college or university; at least three years of hands-on financial experience in a fast-paced environment with supervisory experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Master of Business Administration (MBA) is preferred, but not required for this role.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to create financial reports from given information.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel proficiently, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and handling datasets for reconciliations and reporting.
  • Knowledge of internal control systems.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to collect data, evaluate results and draw conclusions.
  • Problem solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Project management skills: establishing objectives, timelines and deadlines; action planning to meet deadlines; evaluating current and future positions.
  • Ability to establish and continuously improve work procedures and systems.
