About the role
Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to California's most vulnerable individuals. This position requires professional level accounting work in areas such as accounting, financial transactions, and financial contract administration.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts receivable accounting staff
- Responsible for corporate monthly close of all corporate cost centers, ensuring timely and accurate internal and external reporting
- Financial administration of program-based monthly, quarterly, and annual billing and reporting
- Financial administration of concurrent funding both public and private with various payment methods, compliance and reporting requirements and deadlines
- Extract accounting data to facilitate timely billing and collection of receivables, verifying compliance and accuracy
- Aid in the financial closeout process of completed projects and ensure all pending financial issues are resolved, and necessary information is provided
- Prepare reporting on restricted & unrestricted funds for departments, and for management to track the availability and utilization of funds
- Prepare funder invoicing, address funder inquiries, and perform funder invoice analysis
- Support accounts receivable efforts including recording invoicing, deposits, donations, AR aging, write-offs, collection efforts, and cash projections
- Prepare bank reconciliations and perform general ledger reclassifications
- Cross-train with Payroll, Properties, and staff accountants to support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller
Requirements
- Thorough understanding of GAAP requirements
- Analytical and detail-oriented with the ability to look at the whole picture to meet deadlines
- Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities and function independently and as a team member
- High degree of discretion and excellent judgment
- Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills, both written and verbal, with strict adherence to confidentiality
- Understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of funding agency relations and compliance requirements as well as donor expectations regarding gift stewardship
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, databases, etc.)
- Ability and willingness to contribute to the high functioning of the Finance Team
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or three years full-cycle non-profit fund accounting experience, preferred but not required
Qualifications
- Knowledge of accounting principles as well as GAAP and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines
- Professional experience in professional level accounting work in areas such as accounting, financial transactions, and financial contract administration
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical publications, government contracts, leases, regulatory documents, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to write reports that conform to prescribed style and format
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, boards of directors, and public groups
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, and area
- Facility with Microsoft Excel and ability to use a financial calculator
- Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, and written form and to deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables
