This position is located in the Main Jail and is primarily open to current BSO employees holding the Accounting Specialist II classification. To be considered, eligible BSO employees must apply and have completed their probationary period by the closing date. If no applications from BSO employees holding the Accounting Specialist II classification are received, other current BSO employees who have successfully completed their probationary period may also be considered.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience and/or training involving routine to moderately complex accounting functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain accurate accounts and records.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered if clearly documented.

About the Role

Under general supervision, this position performs routine to moderately complex account maintenance work for the assigned unit. Employees are responsible for recording, calculating, and verifying all funds processed, with accuracy being critical to successful performance. The role involves reviewing all work to ensure accuracy in accounting and verification of funds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains various department records and updates assigned accounts.
  • Performs administrative support duties such as filing, copying documentation, and entering data into the unit computer system.
  • Handles accounting duties including preparing payroll, processing special revenues, and maintaining property and acquisition records.
  • Verifies all invoices and receipts through unit checks and balances procedures.
  • Prepares banking deposits for assigned accounting duties.
  • Generates reports and statements (e.g., spreadsheets, statistical reports, budgets, reconciliations) as needed by the work unit.
  • Prints, copies, distributes, and files records and reports.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning records and assigned accounts, providing resolution or direction as needed.
  • Reviews all processed work to ensure accuracy in accounting and fund processing.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties, such as answering telephones, processing mail, and copying materials.

Physical Requirements

  • Tasks involve light physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects/materials up to 10 pounds.
  • Extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
