Accounting Senior Lead
Job Summary
OPSPro specializes in providing small businesses and government contractors with compliance and operational support to include HR, Payroll, Accounting, Contracting, and IT. The Operations Accounting Lead is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, maintaining the integrity of financial records, and leading month-end and year-end close processes. This role ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and serves as a key resource for financial reporting, account reconciliations, and process improvement initiatives.
About the Role
The Operations Accounting Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the accounting department. They are responsible for managing the financial health of the company, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and driving process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the integrity of financial systems and ensure accurate accounting for assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses.
- Create journal entries related to revenue recognition, cost allocations, payroll, credit card activity, and other accounting transactions.
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including variance analysis and explanations.
- Review and approve account reconciliations, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, labor, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Analyze financial information and recommend adjustments or reclassifications as needed.
- Manage and maintain the chart of accounts, including additions and modifications.
- Oversee accounts payable processes, including bill entry, payment processing, and validation of supporting documentation.
- Serve as a back up to accounts payable functions.
- Manage client invoicing, billing schedules, and lead accounts receivable activities.
- Reconcile expenses, licensing, and other direct costs between the ledger and invoicing system to ensure accurate billing.
- Serve as a primary accounting contact for clients related to accounts receivable questions and collections.
- Oversee labor accounting processes, including employee setup, work authorizations, timesheet imports, corrections, and labor journal entries.
- Review payroll-related entries and ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
- Serve as a back up to administrative payroll functions.
- Provide guidance and support to accounting team members.
- Afford additional accounting and financial responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience with account reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end close, and general ledger accounting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong time management and prioritization abilities.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with softwares such as PROCAS, HALO or BILL.COM.
