About the role

We are seeking an Accounting Operations Analyst to join a dynamic finance operations team responsible for accurate payment processing, reconciliation, and research activities within an insurance environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring premium and non-premium payments are accurately identified, processed, and applied while maintaining strong financial controls and supporting a positive customer experience. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, accountability, and meeting service-level expectations are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify, validate, and process premium and non-premium payments within designated financial systems using established procedures.
  • Perform quality checks and reconciliation activities to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with departmental controls.
  • Research and resolve payment-related issues using internal systems, bank imaging tools, virtual lockbox platforms, and other financial resources.
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Accounting, Billing, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury teams to ensure payments are properly allocated and reconciled.
  • Partner with external banking vendors to research and resolve payment discrepancies and processing issues.
  • Manage daily payment exceptions and ensure timely resolution based on operational priorities, including peak periods such as Open Enrollment.
  • Complete payment batching, mail preparation, and processing activities while adhering to internal controls and compliance standards.
  • Process check deposits through Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) and virtual lockbox systems while completing required reporting.
  • Maintain departmental productivity and quality metrics while consistently meeting established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Analyze payment issues, identify root causes, and recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Understand the downstream impact of payment accuracy and timeliness on internal stakeholders, external partners, and the overall customer experience.
  • Participate in department initiatives, process improvement efforts, and special projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in accounting operations, payment processing, treasury, finance, or related analytical roles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and determine root causes of issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of treasury operations, payment processing, or cash application processes.
  • Experience working with Oracle applications and/or PeopleSoft.
  • Familiarity with banking platforms, lockbox processing, or payment reconciliation tools.
