Accounting Manager - Government Contracting

Your Role & Impact

Manage accounting and compliance services for government contractor clients.
Oversee DCAA-compliant accounting structures and internal control environments.
Ensure compliance with: FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), CAS (Cost Accounting Standards), DCAA audit requirements.
Prepare and review: Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS), Provisional billing rate calculations, Forward pricing rate proposals, Indirect rate calculations and reconciliations.
Advisory
Advise clients on timekeeping compliance, labor distribution, and project cost tracking.
Support audit preparation and respond to DCAA audit requests.
Provide guidance on revenue recognition under ASC 606 within a GovCon environment.
Deliver strategic pricing support across contract types, including CPFF, CPAF, T&M, and FFP.
Assist with government billing processes, including WAWF/iRAPT, public vouchers (1034/1035), and related compliance.

Leadership & Client Management

Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients.
Manage engagement budgets, scope and timelines.
Supervise staff and review deliverables.
Support and contribute to business development efforts within the government contracting niche.
Design and build scalable systems and repeatable consulting processes.
Support practice development and expansion of BlueStone’s GovCon advisory services.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Unanet certification and hands-on Unanet implementation experience (beyond user-level exposure)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with significant exposure to government contracting
  • Strong working knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements
  • Direct experience preparing and defending incurred cost submissions
  • Experience leading DCAA audits through closeout and final rate settlement
  • Experience designing indirect rate structures and cost pools
  • Solid understanding of revenue recognition under ASC 606 within a government contracting environment
  • Experience working with multiple contract types, including CPFF, CPAF, T&M, and FFP
  • Familiarity with government billing processes, including WAWF/iRAPT and public vouchers
  • Strong project management and client communication skills
  • Stand-Out Skills: CPA or CPA-track experience, experience in an outsourced accounting or consulting environment, experience with additional GovCon systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Jamis, etc.), experience working with emerging/small to mid-sized government contractors, experience building scalable processes in a growth environment
