Job Summary
The Accounting Manager(M3)- Construction and Development leads the accounting team in their responsibilities for a group of projects under construction and acquired/developing projects for which Leeward Energy has asset management responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing and directing the activities of a team of four, who prepare complex and routine journal entries in accordance with US GAAP.
- Own balance sheet integrity for construction and development entities, including cash, construction-in-progress and property, plant and equipment, lease right-of-use assets and liabilities, intercompany accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other key accounts; ensure timely preparation and resolution of account reconciliations.
- Oversee accounting for the full fixed asset life cycle, including construction-in-progress tracking, capitalization, placed-in-service determinations, transfers between entities and coordination with operational accounting teams.
- Oversee lease accounting for a high volume of land and project-related leases, including operating leases, sale leaseback arrangements and leases with purchase or option extensions.
- Partner closely with project execution and procurement teams to support purchase order processes, construction cost tracking and timely invoice processing.
- Assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements and related variance analysis.
- Support accounting for complex transactions, including tax-equity funding structures, common-control transactions, acquisitions and other complex financing arrangements.
- Prepare opening balance sheets and purchase price allocation entries as needed.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors by preparing audit schedules, providing supporting documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls and documentation in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Special projects and other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Accounting or equivalent, CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of two years people management experience.
- Strong technical and analytical accounting skills with exposure to complex accounting topics such as consolidations, multiple-entity structures, common control transactions, equity and investment accounting, lease accounting, construction accounting, establishing and documenting accounting policies in accordance with GAAP.
- Commitment, ability, and prior experience in meeting deadlines for monthly and quarterly reporting, and special projects; preparing thorough and complete analyses and reconciliations with appropriate documentation and follow-up.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities and deadlines with professional follow-through.
- Demonstrated ability to manage monthly close process and produce high-quality analysis and reconciliations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop team members, prioritize work effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detailed, hands-on approach with a high level of ownership, accountability and professional judgement.
- Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Microsoft Dynamics experience a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
Physical Demands
Position will require sitting for long periods of time. Hybrid schedule, in-office 3 days per week required.
