Accounting Manager – Cattle Procurement & General Accounting
Critical Capabilities
- Oversee cattle procurement accounting, treasury activities, and related reporting responsibilities.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and identify/mitigate risks.
- Implement effective internal controls and drive continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee accounting activities related to cattle procurement, including purchases, settlements, payments, accruals, and month-end close.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards and Company policies.
Manage accounting and reporting responsibilities for assigned business units and corporate functions.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and variance reporting.
Oversee treasury-related activities, including payment approvals, banking transactions, and exception monitoring.
Maintain compliance with applicable tax regulations and support audits, examinations, and compliance requests.
Manage documentation related to tax filings, exemption certificates, and reporting obligations.
Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and implement controls to mitigate those risks.
Support internal and external audits, including documentation, testing, and remediation efforts.
Promote a strong control environment and continuous improvement culture.
Serve as a key resource for accounting systems, reporting tools, and departmental initiatives.
Gradually assume ownership of additional accounting functions and financial processes as assigned.
Collaborate with Procurement, Operations, and Human Resources to support business objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of accounting experience.
Prior supervisory, team leadership, or people management experience required.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
Experience with accounts payable, inventory, procurement, or agricultural accounting preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Able to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in manufacturing, food production, agriculture, cattle procurement, or meat processing industries.
CPA certification preferred.
Experience working cross-functionally with operational, procurement, treasury, and finance teams.
Experience supervising, developing, and managing direct reports.
Knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and audit support requirements.
Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions.
Experience supporting month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliation processes.
Experience working in a dynamic environment with evolving responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new accounting functions and assume increasing levels of responsibility.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
