Accounting Lead

About the role
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting and Controls, the Accounting Lead will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records. This role assists with all aspects of the accounting cycle, from daily transactions through to the close process and financial statement preparation. The Lead serves as a point of contact for external and internal auditors and helps maintain a robust internal control environment. This regional role leads and develops a team of accounting professionals.
Responsibilities
- Direct and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Review and approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and other supporting documentation for multiple company codes.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
- Oversee the accounting for the joint venture partnership, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and financial results are properly consolidated.
- Manage the process for intercompany transactions, ensuring all balances are reconciled and eliminated during consolidation.
- Prepare and review the consolidations file and supporting schedules.
- Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
- Act as the primary liaison for external and internal audit teams, coordinating PBC requests, managing audit schedules, and responding to inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Optimize accounting processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Assist the Accounts Payable functions as needed.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments to support business operations and provide accounting expertise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA) or an advanced degree (MBA) (preferred).
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in a supervisor role.
- Experience with a major ERP system (preferably SAP).
- Experience with joint venture accounting, multiple company codes, and intercompany transactions (essential).
- Experience in the mining, metals, or a related heavy industrial industry (highly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and internal control frameworks (e.g., SOX).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional analytical skills with an inquisitive and problem-solving mindset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the US and Arizona tax environment and regulatory landscape (a plus).
- Spanish-speaking ability to communicate with international partners and a diverse workforce (a plus).

Work Environment
